COUNTRY RESEARCH REPORT

What, exactly, is a country? (HINT: 8 criteria)
Why is Scotland (or England or Great Britain) NOT a country?
How many countries exist in the world? (as of Jan. 2012) Since 1990, thirty-four NEW countries have been "born." FYI: Twenty of these new countries are historically quite old; each was re-born as a newly independent country when two large countries --the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia--disbanded in 1991 and 2003. HELP! The country of Persia has vanished... along with Tibet, Taiwan, Siam, Ceylon, Zanzibar, Burma, Abyssinia, Prussia, Zanzibar, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union, and others. WHY? |
